Parappa the Rapper Review I - Part 2 I mean, how many games have you seen that the characters have no width whatsoever. It's an interesting aspect of the game that works. 2D characters in a 3D world - INGENIUS! The graphics are actually quite pleasing to the eye. The whole mood of the game is set straight away by how the characters behave, talk and look, then when you look at the rest of the surroundings everything suddenly seems normal! Maybe the fact that the characters mouths move correspondently to what they are actually saying is so surprising that it helps you like the whole game even more. But with all this graphics mallarchy in mind you've got to wonder if Parappa has anything else to offer. And to that I say ... "Of course he does!" In actual fact Parappa has an awful lot to offer like his amazing musical and rapping talent. Yes that's right, Parappa can rap, and he seems to do that all the way through the game in the aim of stopping Colonel Noodle. Odd...very odd! But aside from the games un-originality, it SOUNDS superb! The music is rich in detail, with extra little squints in the background, and when the main characters start rapping i.e. Master Chop Chop Onion everything seems perfect! And another thing that makes this game so good and different to the normal "hit-on-time" music sims is that as you rap along to the music, Parappa and his teacher/opponent are also doing something relating to the lyrics, which can sometimes make the whole experience that whole lot more enjoyable. |

Parappa the Rapper Review I - Part 1 Remember the 'old skool' days? People with ridiculous hairstyles and clothes freestyling to some pretty hype beats...thought you would! You can picture it now, people break dancing and scratching on decks, it was a pretty cool era when you think about it. Now Parappa and co. are back, but this time with the main aim of bringing out some good old authentic rapping! But you can forget MC Hammer! Rap, rap rap ...that's the only thing I expected from this game, and in a way that's what I got. But that's not all I got though! I found that the music gave the better effect from the rapping aspect of the game. Nevertheless, both the music and rap schemes have been combined for an even greater effect that just keeps on telling you to have fun! Fun Fun FUN!!! So what's it all about? Well Parappa has won himself a life supply of noodles and soon gets sick of the sight of noodles. Then coincidentally, his girlfriend Sunny Funny prepares him noodles for dinner and he repels it, and along with it Sunny Funny repels him. Then Parappa gets it in his head that he must become a REAL man to win back Sunny Funny, and that's exactl what he sets off to do ... oh yeah, and he must save the whole of Parappa Town from the obsessive Colonel Noodles' ways of trying to turn everything into noodles. Not a very original storyline, I'm sure you've realised, but you can't expect anything else for a game that's not so original. |
